Imperial Texas Rye Aged in Rye Barrels

March 25, 2021by Misty Sanford

Remember that Imperial Texas Rye we brewed a couple of times? No fruit, no adjuncts, just beautiful craft. The ultimate beer for purists. Well, we barrel-aged some of it, and oh my heavens.

In case you need a refresher, Oak Ridge is the beer that is all Texas grain. We partnered with TX Whiskey to snag some of the rye they grow with Sawyer Farms for their rye whiskey. But it gets better. We then acquired TX Rye Whiskey barrels that were previously home to the Sawyer Farms grain and filled them with our rye beer.  How very meta.

The rye steals the show in the
best way possible.

This one took a bit more time than the wine and bourbon barrels, and boy, are we glad we were patient. The rye steals the show in the best way possible.

Oak Ridge BA was a small batch. Now that we have experienced success, we will begin scaling up our barrel program. But for this release, it is taproom only—a handful of cases and on tap.
