Hurra bier! We’re having an Oktoberfest this Saturday!
We have three German beers hitting the tap wall. Fallout will be back and available in cans. An Oktoberfest and a Helles will join it. Admittedly, we’ve never gotten super excited about fall beer, but damn. The two newbies have us stealing samples from the tanks all week. They’re going to pair beautifully with the celebration.
True to form, we’re adding our interpretation to the fall tradition. We’re roasting a whole hog on an open pit instead of grilling brats. And because we want you to enjoy the evening with all five senses, the live music will be an indie singer-songwriter rather than polka.
The hog isn’t just any hog. The delicious darling has been raised on our spent grain and coconut. Chef is building a pit this week and will begin roasting in the wee hours of the morning. Housemade sauerkraut, which takes longer to ferment than beer, and German potato salad will be served with the pork. We expect approx. 100 servings.
Now back to the beer. Most of you are familiar with Fallout, our German Hefeweizen. It has finally moved beyond the “proof of concept” phase, so it is hitting distribution this week, and cans will be available in the taproom this weekend.
Von Braun is the Oktoberfest. It is malty and toasty with a very clean fermentation profile. If you try hard, you will detect the Noble hop character. A slightly sweet finish accompanies the round mouthfeel. It is drier than most beers of this style because well, we like dry beer. The production team can’t stop “sampling” it if that tells you something.
Up next is MP0080, our Helles. For those unfamiliar, Helles means “pale in color.” The lager is a little more malt-forward with a touch of sweetness and zero hop character. By style, this beer is not as dry and crisp as a pils. It is beer flavored beer. Personally, I cannot wait to drink it on Saturday.
